Forward-thinking fashion designers take stand against shallow industry with runway events
Fed-up fashionistas who feel their designs aren’t getting the exposure they deserve have teamed up to stage their own clothing catwalks during the biggest event on the fashion calendar.
Independent London Fashion Week Designers Association is a collection of designers who have formed an alliance against the often exploitive events management companies that operate in the industry by hosting their own schedule of fashion shows during world-renowned London Fashion Week.
Stacey Strahand, founder of the organisation and event manager said, “Fashion as an industry should be diverse and accessible to all, but unfortunately in today’s landscape this just isn’t the case. More and more we are seeing talented individuals failing to receive the opportunities that they deserve to present their work to the world, which is a real shame because a lot of groundbreaking designs are going unnoticed. We are a not for profit organisation who are really committed to supporting people trying to break into the industry, as well as raising money for our chosen charity Unicef.”
“Our shows are going to bridge the gap of exclusively that is present at high-profile events like London Fashion Week and give designers the chance to take their work to the stage so it can garner the recognition and support that it deserves. Fashion is art and no one with a talent, passion or interest in this industry should lose out on an opportunity to be a part of it.”
As well as their concerns over the exclusive nature of the industry, the forthright fashion pack will also be taking a stance against the often impossible standards of beauty and youth that are promoted in the fashion market by using models with a classic look who are over the age of 30.
The revolutionary event the group are orgnaising will also feature pop-up shop space for fashion and health related businesses, and they will also be issuing free passes to Influencers, Media & Press.
