20:20 Innovation Delivers Topical Tax Insights at Accountex Summit Manchester 2025

The 20:20 Innovation team has revealed a series of topical and timely tax insights at the Accountex Summit Manchester 2025, where delegates from across the industry gathered to explore the future of accountancy and finance.

Sharon Cooke, Technical Director at 20:20 Innovation, delivered a packed seminar in Theatre One on the most pressing tax issues facing accountants and their clients today.

In her session, Sharon spoke of four key areas of focus for firms to prioritise this year and into 2026:

Business and employer tax issues, including compliance challenges in PAYE/NIC with intermediaries and the changing landscape of R&D tax reliefs.

  • Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax, practical advice on preparing firms and clients for the 2026 rollout, from piloting voluntary schemes to building advisory-led service packages.
  • Inheritance tax and intergenerational wealth planning, exploring upcoming legislative changes from April 2026 and 2027 and how to help clients manage exposure, including pensions, gifting strategies, and succession planning.
  • Budget predictions with expectations for Budget 2025 including extended threshold freezes, potential reforms to pensions and ISAs, and further scrutiny of reliefs such as Business Asset Disposal Relief and Private Residence Relief.

The session balanced practical takeaways with forward-looking considerations, equipping delegates with strategies to turn potential challenges into opportunities for client advisory and practice growth.

Sharon said, “We’ve had a fantastic day at Accountex Summit Manchester. I was delighted to speak in Theatre One where we covered four topical areas: business and employer tax issues, Making Tax Digital, inheritance tax, and a little bit of budget forecasting too. It was a really well-attended session, and the engagement from delegates showed just how important these topics are right now.

“At 20:20 Innovation, we’ll continue these conversations through our monthly tax updates and our Budget Update later this year. Talking tax – it’s what we’re all about.”

Delegates left the session with an actionable roadmap, from identifying affected clients for inheritance tax planning to exploring automation opportunities within MTD. Many also took the chance to continue discussions at the 20:20 Innovation stand (D11) and Ross Martin Tax Consultancy Limited stand (C11), where the team shared additional resources and tools.

20:20 Innovation now looks ahead to its Practice Excellence Annual Conference in Birmingham this October, continuing to support firms with practical insight, CPD training and forward-thinking strategies as the tax landscape evolves.
