ALBERTA STUDENT START-UP BRNT DESIGNS BRINGS MODERN EDGE TO AGE-OLD SMOKING DESIGN
Edmonton, Alberta: A student start-up from the University of Alberta is making waves in the highly competitive legal cannabis industry with a revolutionary design that brings a unique engineering perspective to the humble bong.
Hexagon is the groundbreaking creation of BRNT Designs, a student-run business founded by two business majors, Simon Grigenas and Rahman Amlani, and mechanical engineering student, Andrew Feltham. The trio set out to break down the stigmas that surround cannabis use with the creation of an innovative, hand-crafted bong which couples form and function with state-of-the-art modeling and design technology.
A fusion of smoking vessel and art form, the Hexagon boasts a sculpture-esque aesthetic, made by hand from ceramic and glass. This marriage of materials allows the bong to withstand temperature changes, makes it dishwasher and freezer safe and stain proof while also giving it a sculptural silhouette that elevates the Hexagon to a contemporary masterpiece.
Built for convenience, BRNT Designs’ creation is a lesson in visionary design – it is convenient to clean and maintain without scrubbing after use, it’s sturdy and thanks to its precise workmanship, maintains its integrity even after heavy washing. What’s more, it is robust enough to withstand daily use and won’t show residue or shatter when dropped thanks to a durable ceramic core material, coated with a thin layer of glass. The BRNT Designs philosophy of breaking down stigmas also means its sleek silhouette, minimal aesthetic and stylish appearance make it a centerpiece.
CEO Simon Grigenas, said, “BRNT Designs has launched the Hexagon without any traditional investment and quickly reached $20,000 in sales in less than two weeks. Our goal when creating the Hexagon was to make a bong that is minimal in design, something you can show off to friends and family that might not consume cannabis.
“This bong can be a centerpiece of your home while being more break resistant than a comparable glass piece due to it being made from a
ceramic blend. It’s stylish yet practical something truly groundbreaking but also fulfils an important purpose.”
In launching their debut product, BRNT Designs has not sacrificed form for function – the unique Hexagon downstem features a diffusion system with holes along the bottom, smoke is filtered directly through the water reservoir at many points. An integrated screen and rubber seal ensure a superior smoking experience, with the design allowing for interchangeability with 14mm glass bowls and standard sized downstems.
