Forest Fuels Adds Highly Experienced Operator To Run Its Flixborough North East Depot

Forest Fuels’ search for a manager to head up its Flixborough and North East Operation is over. Associated British Ports and PD Ports alum, Mick Cruddas, has been appointed as North East Operations Manager, and will be responsible for looking after the management of day to day operations, while working alongside customers and colleagues up and down the country.

Speaking on his appointment, Mick, said, “I’m really happy to be joining Forest Fuels at such an exciting time in its evolution. The company is really going places and it’s great to be able to play a part in it at such a positive time.”

Mick spent nearly thirty years working for Associated British Ports, beginning his career straight out of school as a 16-year-old messenger, delivering post. Over the years, he worked his way through the ranks, and eventually ended up looking after the movements of some of the biggest ships arriving from all four corners of the world.

Mick, explained, “The ships were carrying timber, steel, animal feeds, coal, and the like. Some were more than 200 metres long and carrying up to 35,000 tonnes of cargo. It was my responsibility to juggle them safely and securely in and out of port.”

After conquering ABP, Mick moved on to PD Ports in Immingham. Taking on the role of operations manager in 2008, he oversaw the import and export of steel and petroleum coke for the likes of TATA, latterly British Steel, and ConocoPhillips. Having lived in Immingham all his life, this felt like a natural progression. But the allure of the bioenergy sector drove him towards leading wood fuel heating specialists, Forest Fuels.

Tony Vick, Forest Fuels senior logistics manager, said, “We’re absolutely delighted to have attracted Mick to join our team. The depth of experience and knowledge he has are a real asset to us. Having spent the last 29 years in and around the industry, he has a super pedigree for managing the depot.”

On a personal note, Mick has been married to his wife, Jackie, for 34 years. A father to three grown-up daughters, and a grandfather to a 4 year old grandson and 2 year old granddaughter, life both at work and at home is busy.
