SWOOPE Urges Workers to Enjoy Their Lunchbreaks

SWOOPE, the country’s only app that connects smartphones to multiple hospitality tills, has reiterated the need for workers to take time for their lunchbreaks to avoid burnout and detrimental effects to their health, as it’s revealed that four out of five employees work through their lunchbreaks.

The experts behind the savvy app, which makes the idea of ‘grab and go’ a reality, says that although staying late occasionally to finish a project or complete a pressing piece is fine, these startling figures reveal there is a greater need for employers to ensure workers are happy, healthy, and working to their full potential – and enforcing regular breaks is one of the best ways to do this.

Speaking about the findings, Lee Nazari, CEO of SWOOPE, said, “We all know that many workers’ time is becoming more precious, with demands increasing and deadlines getting tighter, but the news that just one in three leave work on time and a huge four in five work though lunch is extremely worrying. Not only can this affect our ability to do our jobs, but it can also spell bad news for both our physical and mental health.

“It is employers’ responsibility to make sure workers are taking these law-abiding breaks to ensure work is always of the highest standard and workers are content in their jobs.”

The research, undertaken by Totallymoney, highlights that skipping lunchbreaks and working overtime results in employees working an average of 68 days for free every single year. The equivalent of working from the start of the year to the 9th of March, 65 percent of those who do this do not get paid for this as it’s often considered an expected part of their job.

The SWOOPE app, which launched earlier this month, makes it easier for workers to take lunchbreaks in short amounts of time by cutting down the time taken to pop out and grab something to eat and drink. Noticing that workers were pressed for time as a result of the demands of busy jobs, the experts developed the app to redefine fast food.

In a time-pressured world, SWOOPE provides workers with a choice of delicious eateries with varying cuisines at the touch of a button. Giving them the opportunity to order and state a time for collection, it removes the stress of finding somewhere to eat and ensures they don’t waste half their break waiting for their food to be ready.
