Australia’s #1 Insect Food Brand Launches New Cricket Energy Bars

Hoppa, the  highly nutritious, extremely sustainable, insect-based food brand, has launched a totally new range of 100% natural energy bars made from cricket protein. The latest additions join Hoppa’s existing cricket protein powder, cricket baking powder, and cricket pasta.

Hoppa mills responsibly raised and sustainably sourced crickets into a fine powder, providing exceptional nutritional value with neutral taste and texture to allow the delicious flavours of the four new date-based bars to shine through. Available in cinnamon and chia, coconut and pumpkin seed, cocoa and cashew, and peanut butter and oat flavours, each bar contains 10-11 grams of protein, along with Vitamin B12, iron, and complete aminos and omegas.

The new energy bars join Hoppa’s existing range of foods, which some may recognise from their appearance on Channel 7’s Sunrise. Entomologist Dr. Bryan Lessard of The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation recommended Hoppa products as a sustainable alternative to animal protein following CSIRO research on the health benefits of insects.

Channy Sandhu, Hoppa Founder, says “At a time when we’re all becoming a little more conscious about what we eat and the impact our food has on the planet, we’re increasingly looking for healthier and more sustainable options. Since we launched our first insect-based superfood range back in 2019, awareness of the benefits of insect consumption has grown rapidly, and we’ve seen increased demand for our innovative products. We are delighted to introduce our new 100% natural and sustainable cricket protein energy bars to give our customers more choice than ever before.”

Cricket protein is said to be the most sustainable on the planet, requiring 12x less food and 2000x less water to produce the same amount of protein as cattle. However, it’s much more than just protein. Crickets have been found to contain chitin and other fibres that may have a big impact on health. Research into this area suggests that cricket consumption can cause an almost 6-fold rise in bifidobacterium animalis to promote gut health, while reducing plasma TNF-a levels to help minimise inflammation in the body.

The new cricket-fuelled energy bars by Hoppa are 100% natural, with absolutely zero artificial ingredients or nasty surprises. The bar’s natural sweetness comes from dates. Each is completely free of wheat and dairy, paleo-friendly, kind to the gut and bursting with vitamins and minerals. The star ingredient – crickets – is also sustainably sourced and responsibly raised, with total traceability to provide peace of mind for customers.
