Award-winning London sex shop set to host unique event to mark National Vaginismus Awareness Day

Sh! the award-winning sex shop for women will mark National Vaginismus Awareness Day next week (15 September, 2018) with a special in-store event designed to lift the lid on painful sex and  provide expert help to sufferers.

Experts estimate that as many as two in every 1000 women will experience Vaginismus at some point in their lifetime. The condition causes pelvic muscles to spasm and prevent penetration, making sex painful or even impossible.

Although this affects thousands of women each year, many are too embarrassed or afraid to seek treatment. Sh! set out to open up the conversation about painful sex with the launch of Vaginismus Awareness Day and will continue its work with the in-store awareness event, featuring expert advice and non-judgemental discussions with Sh!’s multi-award winning Senior Store Manager and Sexuality Educator, Renee Denyer and Sex and Relationship Therapist, Sarah Berry.

Denyer says, “Thousands of women suffer painful sex in silence but we have made it our mission to reach out and support anyone affected by this condition. As well as a complimentary glass of bubbly and a free bottle of Sh! Pure Lube (25ml), our specialists will be on hand to share their personal experiences with Vaginismus as well as provide tips on gaining control of it including recommendations for suitable toys.”

Accredited therapist Sarah Berry has fought her own battle with Vaginismus and will present ‘Your Journey with Vaginismus’ to help sufferers and partners on their own journeys with this condition. She uses traditional counselling techniques as well as specialist sex and relational tools to help people find answers to why they have the condition, what maintains it and how to gain control of it. She works experientially with each person or couple. While there are patterns, everyone is different and needs to find their own way to achieve their own goals.

During her 11 year tenure at Sh! Renee has become an award-winning expert in female sexuality, Renée’s knowledge of sex toys and their benefits is unparalleled and she has years of experience offering advice and recommendations to women (cis and trans) battling Vaginismus. Renée will do a short presentation of the specially designed Sh! Vibrating Dilator Kit and explain the benefits of using vibrations as a way of overcoming Vaginismus.

After the presentation, she will be on hand to recommend suitable toys and their potential for pleasure.

The Vaginismus Awareness Event is designed for sufferers and their partners and will take place on Friday 14 September at 6.30pm at Sh! 31-35 Pitfield Street. London, N1 6HB. Attendance is free but space is limited and advance booking is essential. To register, email Events@sh-womenstore.com
