Bauhu Launches Specialised Modular Homes Care Pod as Care Crisis Deepens

Pre-fabricated modular construction company Bauhu has launched a specialised new range of Smart Care Pods suitable for residential use as the UK’s care crisis deepens.

Reports suggest that some families face a wait of up to two years for a care space, and 87% of local authorities may lack the space needed to meet demand in the next three years.

Bauhu Smart Care Pods are high quality, prefabricated modular buildings fitted with a range of assisted living technologies. Each residential pod is designed to help residents live safely and independently, whether at home or in a commercial care setting. Pods are future-proofed and ready to accommodate hoists, grab rails, and a wide range of other medical and supportive equipment. Pods can be delivered in a matter of weeks and are ready to move into right away.

Available in a choice of three designs, each Smart Care Pod is equipped with bathroom facilities suitable for assisted showering and wheelchair accessibility, spacious interiors, and bespoke fitted furniture. Outdoor options such as integrated decking are also available.

Home automation plays a significant role in facilitating safe, independent living in a Bauhu Smart Care Pod. Voice command technology makes many day-to-day tasks easier while a built-in carer interface boosts the value of home visits, logging vital information to ensure occupants receive the support they need to help them continue living safely.

“There is little doubt that the care sector is in crisis, with a shortage of spaces and lack of staff. What’s more, many people actually want to stay at home and be close to loved ones but the process of adapting a building or building a traditional granny flat can be problematic,” says Paul Brown, Bauhu director.

“We have spent years creating the Smart Care Pod. The result is a premium quality building at a price level comparable to a conventional residential home but of a far superior quality and with portability. State-of-the-art residential care features which carefully consider the needs of residents are coupled with architecturally-attractive buildings which exceed UK building regulations and offer standards in line with commercial care facilities.”

The fully portable structures are foundation free, which negates the delay, mess and disruption of conventional construction methods and makes relocation easy. Details such as internal plaster, flooring and wall tiling are specially prepared so they won’t crack or break during transit and a unique steel structure supports the building and allows for it to be lifted by crane without bending or flexing.

All Smart Care Pods have excellent insulation to minimise heating costs and prevent draughts, are very energy efficient, environmentally sound, easily transportable from one location to another, safe and secure and suited for use as individual pods or clusters of buildings.
