BLT Direct asks, could the wrong lighting be affecting your brainpower?
Following information from a study revealing that poor lighting can impact negatively on individual’s brain power, a lighting specialist that stocks a range of LED lighting solutions is keen to encourage people to pay more attention to the lighting that they install both at home and at work.
BLT Direct offers a plethora of commercial and domestic lighting solutions and thinks that the study conducted at Michigan State University is insightful and telling of the type of lighting people should be using at work or in any office environments.
The laboratory study tracked the brains of Nile grass rats, with half of the animals involved in the experiment kept in a dimly-lit environment, similar to the lighting that many humans would be exposed to in poorly-lit office spaces. The other half were kept in a much more brightly-lit environment, akin to that of a summer’s day.
Results revealed that animals in the dimmer space lost around 30% of their hippocampus capacity, a brain region that is responsible for learning and memory.
Steven Ellwood, Managing Director at BLT direct said: “For any environment where concentration and brain function is important, having optimum light sources is crucial. This study has shown that natural lighting is the most effective light source for this, so for companies and individuals keen to maximise their working abilities, choosing daylight bulbs will be the best option.
“Daylight bulbs are a full spectrum light source and offer a colour temperature of 6500K and a CRI of 96%, meaning that the light that these type of bulbs emit is as close to natural daylight as you can get.”
This Fluorescent T5 Tube 8 Watt Daylight boasts the latest lamp technology and provides instant start, high colour rendering and efficacy and long life.
