CAMPUS COLLEGE TOUR “WHAT THEY DON’T TEACH YOU IN SCHOOL ABOUT MONEY” KICKS OFF IN MARYLAND THIS WEEK
A self-taught female business leader, who quit her accounting job at 29 to build a successful real estate investment firm, will kick off a national entrepreneurship movement specifically for college kids at the University of Maryland next week with a single rallying cry – come and learn what they don’t teach you in school about money.
The What they Don’t Teach You In School About Money campus college tour is the vision of real estate entrepreneur, coach and author, April Mitchell, a passionate advocate for teaching entrepreneurship skills in school, a class which most colleges lack. This tour will see her visiting six different universities over the next 12 weeks as she heads back to school to help the nation’s college students develop financial and business acumen.
This force for change kicks off against a backdrop of soaring student debt and declining American entrepreneurship: 70% of all US college graduates will leave college with significant loans while collectively college graduates owe $1.5 trillion in student loan debt[1], a debt the Federal Reserve says equals a monthly repayment of around $300[2]. In the last decade alone, the number of startups being created in the USA has declined by 36%[3] as graduates head to work but not for themselves.
“Graduates are leaving school and looking for jobs because they’re taught to go out, get a job and become a consumer, not go out and create jobs by starting a business,” says Mitchell. “This campus college tour has been a vision of mine for years. I was once a broke college student, who went to school trying to become an entrepreneur, only to discover I would learn nothing about entrepreneurship in college.
“It’s time for things to change. I began to read Robert Kiyosaki’s Rich Dad, Poor Dad in college. The book cost me $15.00 but changed my life forever. I learned more about money, wealth and entrepreneurship from that book than I had in four years in college with hundreds of thousands of dollars in student loans. When I graduated from college I began to work in the accounting field, which is what I have a degree in. I hated my job. I began to invest in real estate which allowed me to quit my job at the young age of 29 and built Flipping Krazy, a successful multi-million dollar real estate investing company. I believe there are millions of college students like me and I am going back to help them. Change starts right here in Maryland.”
What they Don’t Teach You In School About Money gives students the entrepreneurial insight and guidance they don’t get in class. It equips them with the know-how to build wealth through real estate investing, prepares them for a changing economy and shows them how to become an entrepreneur and graduate without the colossal burden of student debt.
Motivational, inspiring and educational, the What they Don’t Teach You In School About Money campus tour begins Wednesday November 14th at the UMD Campus with cash giveaways, free food and free knowledge.
