Cheeky Wipes Reusable Alternatives Save 178 Million Items from Landfill in Six Years

Cheeky Wipes, the reusable baby wipes, period products and incontinence product brand is celebrating a landmark new milestone this month. Its figures show that since 2016, Cheeky Wipes products have kept an estimated 178 million items from being sent to landfill. This is 38 million up from last year’s figure, which stood at 140 million.

Plastic pollution has become one of the most pressing environmental issues we face. In 2021, Cheeky Wipes was presented with a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development for its work creating a vast array of reusable products.

Helen Rankin, Founder of Cheeky Wipes, said, “This is a huge jump up in the number of single-use sanitary products that we’ve saved from going in a landfill or elsewhere in the environment, such as the ocean. Reusables are a convenient, environmentally friendly alternative to the many, many plastic, expensive, uncomfortable, ineffective and wasteful disposable options out there.”

Since 2016, Cheeky Wipes estimate they have kept the following out of landfills:

  • 113 million single use sanitary products
  • 50 million packets of disposable baby wipes
  • 7 million pairs of disposable breast pads
  • 12 million packs of disposable makeup removing wipes

These savings also add up to huge savings for cash-strapped households too, with the total combined value standing just below £130 million.

Helen added: “We’re delighted but we really can’t take credit.  It’s our fantastic customers who should take the credit for allowing us to help them ditch disposables in their life. They made this possible. It’s been an amazing journey so far, and especially at the moment and the cost of living crisis, we look forward to helping more customers save money AND the planet in 2023!”
