Chef Damian Wawrzyniak Back on BBC With Mary Berry This Easter
Rising star chef, Damian Wawrzyniak will be back on BBC TV this Easter Weekend with Queen of Cakes and former Great British Bake Off Judge, Mary Berry.
Mary Berry Easter Feast, which explores how people across Britain celebrate Easter, will be broadcast on 12 and 13 April at 7.00pm on BBC Two, with Chef Wawrzyniak appearing in both episodes. The Polish chef and ambassador for Polish Cuisine wowed the Queen of Cakes when the show was originally aired last year by serving up his interpretation of the Eastern European classic, babka.
Babka is a classic Easter treat but one that has gained almost cult status in recent years at bakeries around the world. From artisan bakers in trendy Williamsburg, Brooklyn to hip dough-slingers in London, the pastry is a must have and every chef has their own classic and not so classic spin.
To showcase his own version of the cake, Chef Wawrzyniak dug out his oldest family recipe and prepared the dish for Mary Berry in the heart of his own family kitchen. He said, “Mary came to meet me and my family to learn more about the traditions behind the cake and, after tasting, she invited me to share the recipe in her kitchen!
“As a chef I’m passionate about sharing Polish recipes and this one is particularly special. Although it’s one of the few Polishes dishes that is really well known no matter where you go in the world, it’s important to me that its roots and meaning are also shared. It was a real honour to cook this dish for Mary and I’m looking forward to it airing this weekend!”
Chef Wawrzyniak is currently on an international food tour, which has seen him take his popular Polish Feast from around the UK to US shores. He’ll appear in Chicago next May as a Grant Cuisine Ambassador, cooking at the National restaurant Association (NRA) Show in Chicago, Illinois. Before that, he’ll take his Polish Feast to London, Peterborough and Sheffield.
