Chef Damian Wawrzyniak Launches House of Feasts

The first restaurant from standout Polish chef Damian Wawrzyniak has opened in Peterborough with a special opening night and five star reviews from diners.

House of Feasts brings family-style feasting to decadent, delicious life with sumptuous hog roasts and sharing platters packed with contemporary twists on traditional favourites.

Breaking the last food frontier, meshing Polish classics with seasonal British dishes, the eclectic menu simply begs to be sampled. Each mouthwatering dish is made from fresh, local, seasonal produce with meus changing weekly.

Starters include a refreshing cucumber and melon cold summer soup, melt-in-the-mouth aged beef tartare, smalec and sourdough bread, cured salmon and honey and thyme glazed baked camembert.

Each Sunday will see a hog roast, brined for two days and served with a sweet, nutty pearl barley, braised cabbage and seasonal Cambridgeshire vegetables. Whole grilled sea bass, roast beef and dumplings, with generous portions to feed large groups, celebrations and special occasions.

Deserts are similarly hard to refuse with modern interpretations of classics such as rhubarb, served with billowy meringue two ways, charcoal – grilled Oscypek cheese and Espresso Crème Brule with coffee marinated orange segment and orange crisp.

Food is served in the extensive garden and bright, modern interior, complete with ceiling alfresco paying homage to Poland’s highest peaks, long timber benches and sheepskin throws for when the weather turns cool.

Chef Wawrzyniak said, “To open my own restaurant is a dream come true. It is the culmination of my food journey and reflects everything that I have learned cooking in Poland, here in the UK, in the US, France and around the world. It is a place for guests to eat and drink sumptuously and to feast with friends and family.”

Chef Wawrzyniak is a regular on BBC TV and showed queen of cakes, Mary Berry how to make a traditional Polish babka during Mary Berry’s Easter Feast. He is currently in the middle of an international food tour, showcasing Polish food around the UK, Europe and US and will release his first cookbook, I am a Cook later this summer.
