Rico Devante, Braces Himself for Chart-Topping Success

Rico Devante, an electrician turned opera star, who is best known for his appearance on Sky’s reality show, Anyone Can Sing, is about to take on one of his biggest challenges yet – the UK music charts.

The opera singer, who had no previous singing experience before signing up for the hit Sky reality show, has since been mentored by the likes of Katherine Jenkins, Natalia Romaniw and Sarah Pring, while working with the English National Opera. Now, Rico finds himself on a mission to shake up the traditional Opera genre with his impressive voice and modern approach to performing.

Following his appearance on the show, Rico Devante is now working with music producers to release his first official song that is expected to be well-received by a larger audience than the typical opera fans.

“Performing on stage in front of all those people has really given me the singing bug, and I want to do something great with that. I hope that, from seeing what’s come out of my hard work, I’m not just proving something to myself, but proving to others that if you do have a dream, you should never give up,” comments Rico Devante on his newly found passion for singing.

Rico, who grew up in Hackney, East London, hopes that his growth in popularity among the opera community will knock down some of the stereotypical barriers that are apparent within the genre, “The opera world always seemed like a very closed society, especially to people of colour and being from the area I grew up. A lot of my initial apprehensions have been put at ease, but there is still a lot more we can do to make opera more inclusive.”

The public is invited to join Rico on his journey to chart-topping success as the whole experience is being filmed for a brand-new, three-part documentary spin-off of Anyone Can Sing, which will detail the challenges and dedication needed to make it in the music industry.
