Food and Drink Gifts Trending for Mother’s Day

Mum’s around the country can expect to be spoilt with tasty nibbles and indulgent tipples this Mother’s Day, as a study shows that sales of food and drinks gifts has soared by as much as 367% in the run up to Mothering Sunday.

The personalised gift retailer, GiftPup conducted the research in a bid to identify what the nation’s mums can expect to find with their card this year. Its findings suggest that gift givers are increasingly looking to give mum a tasty treat and commemorate the special occasion with a bottle of bubbly or wine. The increase in prosecco, red wine and white wine gifts come as sales of other, more traditional options, including jewellery have shown declines.

Sales of edible letterbox hampers have also soared; with dozens of options including sweets, biscuits, cheese, and teas. The hampers are sized to fit through a standard letterbox, meaning they are a convenient choice for those who can’t see mum in person on Sunday 22 March.

GiftPup product manager, Emily Ford said, “During the Mother’s Day period, sales of our Photo Upload Prosecco gift have increased 367% in the past year, our Photo Upload White Wine product has increased 125% while the Photo Upload Red Wine option has shown a 17% increase in sales. It’s clear that those treating mum are opting to do so with a beautiful bottle of wine now more than ever.

“What makes this trend so interesting is not just the large increases, but the fact that at the same time, traditional Mother’s Day staple gift picks such as heart lockets have declined by around 86% in the same period. Last year, our most popular Mother’s Day products were our Mother’s Day Photo Gin Bottle, and our Best Mum Champagne Flute with Prosecco.

“Items like our sweet trees and hampers, particularly our increasingly popular Cheese Lover’s Hamper and Letterbox Hampers, have also been flying off the shelves.”
