Forward-thinking sex shop traces the history of the nipple tassel and offers flirty females eye-catching new designs

A London sex shop that promotes sexual diversity and discovery for women has just released a number of new daring nipple tassel styles and is keen to track the colorful history of the sexualized accessory.

Sh! sells a wide range of sex toys and accessories, with nipple tassels featuring prominently in their offering. From sparkly designs to pretty lace finishes, there is something for every women keen to adorn her chest and draw attention to her best assets in the most glamorous way possible.

Nipple tassels, otherwise known as pasties, first came to prominence thanks to a Western fascination with anything considered to be exotic or derived from Eastern influences. The World’s Fair in 1893 saw belly dancers and exotic performers sporting metal breastplates to protect their modesty, which in fact covered little more than the front of their breasts.

The breastplates were often decorated with gems and metallic detailing, ensuring that spectator’s eyes were drawn to them. The trend caught on and was quickly emulated in circuses, where performers involved in stage acts would decorate themselves.

Causing a stir amongst audiences, nipple tassels were also adopted by burlesque halls, with the first appearance of pasties in this type of setting being in Paris during the 1920s.

Thanks to the evolution of the fashion industry and the neoburlesque movement that came to prominence during the 90s, nipple tassels were commonplace during high fashion catwalk shows, which is perhaps what has led to them progressing into a more socially acceptable fashion and sexual expression today.

Renee Denyer, Senior Store Manager at Sh! said: “It’s fascinating to see how nipple tassels have evolved over the centuries, from once only being worn by exotic performers to now being accessible to all women.

“Thanks to the body confidence movement that has really taken off in recent years, more and more women are looking for ways that they can express themselves and show off the skin that they are with daring clothes and fashion accessories.

“It’s also inspiring to see that nipple tassels don’t just have to be for the bedroom, with many women choosing to wear them for festivals and other social gatherings.”

Women keen to unleash their wild side will love these Zebra Print Nipple Tassels which include self-adhesive stick and are reusable.
