INTRODUCING THE LONDON POWER 100

INTRODUCING THE LONDON POWER 100 – THE MOST INFLUENTIAL MEN AND WOMEN IN LONDON

Royals, PM and Mayor of London fail to make the cut, Independent Group leader and Boris Johnson named

The British Publishing Company has today named the 100 Londoners powering the rise of global Britain through its annual Global Britain Power 100 list. Now in its 15th year, Power 100 is the official who’s who of Britain’s key power players and influencers.

The London Power 100 is a definitive list of the most influential men and women in London today, as seen by those living in the capital. There are more than a few key omissions too as Londoners have their say on the people shaping their city and those failing to step up to the task.

The 2019 Power 100 list is a formidable collection of individuals, chosen by real Londoners on the basis of who they perceive to be making a difference on issues that matter the most to those in the capital. Key inclusions in this year’s list are Boris Johnson, Jacob Rees Mogg and Chuka Umunna, the ring leader of the newly formed Independent Group.

Dean Hayden Head of SO15 Counter Terrorism Command, the Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick, Chief Executive of GlaxoSmithKline,  Emma Walmsley, war zone surgeon David Nott and Ade Adelekan of the Violent Crime Taskforce are all recognised along with business leaders, journalists and key NHS staff.

This year’s list, which comes amid growing Brexit conflict, political unrest and social unease, is just as notable for those omitted as included, showing how those in positions of power are falling short of their mandate. Significant exclusions are Prime Minister Theresa May, considered by many to lack the influence needed to lead with surety and gravitas. The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan also fails to make the cut after failing to tackle soaring knife crime and increasing violence on the city streets.

This isn’t a roll-call of establishment figures but a fascinating glimpse into the fabric of the country and those men and women, from all walks of life, playing an integral role in leading London and its 8.7 million citizens through this extraordinary moment in history.

Farrukh Butt, Project Director London Power 100 commented, “We are negotiating an unprecedented era of political and social reform and it’s no longer enough to cite a manifesto and then fail to deliver meaningful change. The individuals recognised on today’s London Power 100 are leaders, able to steer opinion and action towards the most positive possible outcomes in economic, social or cultural contexts. They are the men and women who, either through position or personality, exercise a significant power that influences events and sets parameters in the conduct of their organisation, the climate of political debate and the shaping of new ideas.  They are the London Power 100.”
