Introducing Virosnood: the Eco-Friendly Alternative to Disposable Masks

Designed and manufactured in Great Britain with HeiQ Viroblock technology

A UK textiles expert has poured its expertise into a brand new range of sustainable face coverings, design and manufactured in Great Britain’s textile heartland and treated with a world-leading antimicrobial protection which won’t disappear in the wash.

Virosnood is championing the use of reuseable facemasks and snoods with an on-trend edge in a bid to reduce the number of disposable masks that end up in landfill.

With an estimated 129 billion disposable masks being used each month, environmental organisations are warning that the ‘PPE pollution’ stemming from single use masks could create a further crisis for our natural environment.

Researchers from University College London have estimated that if every person in the UK used one single-use mask each day for a year, an additional 66,000 tonnes of plastic waste would end up in landfill. The WWF says that even if just 1% of face masks are disposed of incorrectly, around 10,000,000 will still end up in the environment each month, creating unnecessary and harmful pollution in waterways, seas and natural wildlife habitats.

Available in child and adult sizes, Virosnood facemasks and snoods offer a washable alternative to disposable masks and use the latest technology for comfort and protection against potentially harmful microbes and bacteria. Each design is made from sustainable, soft and stretchy recycled materials and then treated with HeiQ Viroblock technology. The bio-based technology is proven to be effective against coronavirus and kills bacteria and common viruses on contact within minutes.

HeiQ Viroblock technology is also non-toxic, does not irritate the skin and uses only bio-based and recycled ingredients, making it far kinder to the natural environment than their disposable mask counterparts.

Virosnood co-founder Asif Karbani said, “Designed and manufactured here in the UK, we want to play a part in protecting our customers from the risk of COVID-19 without having a detrimental impact on the environment. We have been able to create a safer, more comfortable and washable solution to disposable facemasks which is easier to wear and offers greater levels of protection, even after washing.
