Midlands Restaurant Tamatanga Celebrates Finalist Status for Best Indian in the UK & Ireland at the Deliveroo Restaurant Awards 2020
The independent East Midlands restaurant chain Tamatanga is celebrating making the finals of the annual Deliveroo Restaurant Awards following a tough year for the hospitality sector. The Indian eatery, which has locations in Nottingham, Birmingham and Leicester, joined tough competition from big name chains and independents around the country in the shortlist of the best Indian takeaways in the UK and Ireland.
Over 100,000 votes were cast by Deliveroo diners up and down the country to select the country’s best takeaways in 18 categories for this year’s second annual awards. A star-studded judging panel, including Maya Jama, Vogue Williams and Riyadh Khalaf were tasked with helping Deliveroo’s CEO and Founder, Will Shu name the winners.
Founded by Aman Kular, Tamatanga prides itself on being fresh, fabulous and flavoursome. It uses local ingredients and spices ground each day in its own kitchens to create tasty modern takes on traditional Indian dishes. Juicy meat, fish and veg are cooked to perfection in a clay oven on site, while diners can also tuck into seasonal Thali bowls, sweet, sour, crispy, crunchy chaat, slow cooked biriyanyi bowls loaded with healthy goodness and hearty salads. An abundance of vegan and gluten free options means no diner goes hungry; a dedication which helped Tamatanga to finalist status in this year’s awards.
Tamatanga’s three restaurants in Nottingham, Birmingham and Leicester have been forced to close during the COVID-19 pandemic but the popular local eateries continue to serve guests with food to go, available for delivery or collection.
Tamatanga founder and managing director, Aman Kular said the brand is proud to be a real Midlands success story. “We are beyond thrilled to have been named a finalist for the accolade of number 1 Indian restaurant on Deliveroo and are so thankful to all of our loyal customers who took the time to vote for us. Deliveroo is the UK’s most prominent delivery platform and as an independent business, this is a huge achievement. Like many in the industry, we have worked hard to adapt this year, and look forward to feeding even more diners with Deliveroo!”
The award-winning restaurant chain first opened its doors in Nottingham in 2008 and has since become a mid-range dining staple for foodies in the city. The Leicester restaurant recently underwent a £1.5 million renovation. Two new venues in Sheffield and Leeds will join the three existing sites in 2021, with the 150-strong team also set to be expanded in the New Year.
