‘MIDWIFE MARLEY’ SHARES APPROACHABLE, FREE GUIDANCE ON PREGNANCY, CHILDBIRTH AND POSTPARTUM LIFE DURING LOCKDOWN

As a busy midwife and mum of five (including twins), Marley Hall knows plenty about the process of bringing new life into the world – something she has been sharing with her thousands of Instagram followers. Using her fun yet educational doodles to put across important information, Marley is able to connect with women who are seeking a helping hand in getting through pregnancy and childbirth.

During the Covid-19 outbreak, women around the UK have had their parent education classes cancelled, so are now stuck having to pay for expensive private classes. Alternatively, they can turn to Marley’s free to access social media page, where she covers everything from conception to pregnancy, birth and postpartum life.

Following the success of the page, Marlena has now branched out into writing her first book, which is still a work in progress – and as a speaker at The Baby Show at London’s Excel Centre, she had also now launched a series of downloadable birth guides, which can be found on her website.

“I started creating doodles in May 2019, to help educate and inform expectant parents in a fun way that they could resonate with,” says Marley. “My Instagram page took off a lot quicker than I expected, and I now have people following and sharing my posts from all over the world! It’s hard to keep up sometimes, especially when I get so many wonderful messages from my followers – we’re at more than 40k now!”

Marley is delighted that as midwife of colour, she has been able to build and connect with such a diverse audience, all eagerly awaiting her next post. Through this project she highlights that women from BAME communities are more likely to suffer complications (including death) during pregnancy, an inequality which is rarely discussed.

Using this social platform, Marley is able to share her midwifery knowledge with a wider audience, while also entertaining them. In a relatively short timeframe, this talented and enterprising midwife has already developed a strong following – and it only looks set to grow.
