GiftPup Unwraps 2019’s Most Popular Birthday Gifts

GiftPup, the personalised gifts retailer, has revealed its most in-demand birthday gifts for 2019. It says that food and drink gifts top the leader board this year, with more friends and family purchasing personalised alcohol and sweet-related gifts to commemorate a birthday than any other type of present. Edible treats beat out traditional present selections including jewellery, clothes and home accessories.

The top sellers list features an array of decadent gifts, showing that Britain is most definitely a fan of birthday indulgence. Amongst the most popular pressies this year is the personalised pink birthday Prosecco and vintage birthday scotch whisky, both with customisable labels. For those with a sweet tooth, the birthday age Lindor sweet tree which includes 26 luxurious truffles has also been a birthday hit.

Outside of food and drink, Giftpup says meaningful selections like photo frames and cuddly teddy bears are also popular. For kids, the chocolate-coloured Charlie Teddy Bear has been a big hit.

“The personalised gift market is constantly growing, and our birthday gifts in particular have seen a massive rise in recent years,” says Giftpup Product Manager, Emily Ford. “We believe that this is due to the fact that sending a personalised birthday gift is an easy way to send something meaningful and unique, without breaking the bank or having to resort to arts and crafts.

“Our bestsellers amongst adults are, of course, our alcohol gifts, but it’s just not wines and whiskies that we’re seeing increased demand for. We’re seeing a definite trend for gifting alcohol-adjacent presents, too, such as engraved glassware; a great way to add a personal touch to a classic.”

Personalised gifts have become increasingly popular over the past few years as consumer behaviour and product availability has evolved. With the rapid growth in online shopping, the average shopper is perhaps more likely to purchase desired products online for quick delivery, rather than waiting until a special event or occasion. At the same time, shoppers are looking for more thoughtful, unusual, and one-of-a-kind gifts that can’t simply be picked up in store. Personalisation also allows for standard products to be tailored based on relationships, enabling gifts to be used for family, friends, and colleagues.
