New Documentary Brings No. 1 International Bestseller The Boy From The Wild to the Big Screen

A successful Hollywood actor raised in the wilds of South Africa has become a debut conservation director, producer and filmmaker to bring his childhood safari experiences to the big screen. Actor, model and author Peter Meyer’s No. 1 international bestseller, The Boy from the Wild, will come to life through an exciting documentary premiering later this year.

The documentary, made with the help of renowned South African filmmaker Werner Kruse and 7 Palms Entertainment, is based on the heart-warming 2017 book by Meyer and The Elephant Whisperer author, Graham Spence. It tells the real life story of a small boy growing up on his father’s sprawling 1,000-hectare reserve in KwaZulu-Natal and highlights the importance of African wildlife conservation. The book tells not only of Meyer’s unique experiences living amongst rhinos in the wild, but also of his relationship with his late father; one of the UK’s most prolific property developers.

Now a successful actor and model, Meyer’s journey has been shaped by his early years growing up amongst nature. “The experiences I had in South Africa are experiences that will stay with me forever, and even though my life has taken a very different direction to that of my father, who created the reserve, the beauty and the importance of the land and of these majestic creatures is something that remains an essential part of who I am,” says the new filmmaker.

“To be able to bring my experiences to life from page to screen is a phenomenal feeling, and I hope to transport every viewer back to the ‘Valley of Heaven’ with me to really understand how mesmerising safari can be.”

Michael O’Sullivan, Former Executive Vice President of Paramount Pictures International said, “As a debut director and producer, Peter’s documentary, The Boy from the Wild, adapted from his terrific bestseller book of the same name provides a wonderful visual commentary on his very early life growing up on the Karloof Safari Spa, near Durban, South Africa, with his
father James, mother Mandy and brother Jamie.

“From the opening shots of the African wildlife to the emotional tributes to his father, this film tells the incredible story of Peter’s adventures as a young boy, the setting up of the Karloof Safari Lodge and its impact on conservation at the time. A pioneering concept in the “Valley of Heaven”. The film has many magical images of the extraordinary South African landscape and wonderful images of Rhinos, safe in this environment. It’s a visual and emotional treat for everyone. Brilliant!”

Peter Meyer grew up on the Karkloof Valley Nature Reserve before becoming an international hotelier. Following the death of his father, Meyer chose to follow his dreams, just as his father had followed his in South Africa, to become a successful model and actor. Now living in London, Meyer works full time within the entertainment industry and is known for his roles in movies such as Transformers: The Last Knight and The Commuter, shot alongside Liam Neeson who encouraged Meyer to write the book . The new documentary based on his bestseller marks Meyer’s debut role as director, producer and filmmaker.

A premiere and screening of the new documentary will be held at the Royal Geographic Society on October 12th 2019, and is open to the general public by ticketed admission. Tickets to the event, which is being held in partnership with Rhinos Without Borders, can be secured in advance through eventbrite.
