Pandemic Stokes Demand for Warehousing and Logistics Workers UK-Wide

The global Covid-19 pandemic has stoked demand for warehouse, logistics and e-commerce roles across the UK with an increase in online shopping creating entry-level jobs for warehousing operatives new to the sector.

According to a recent study conducted by global job search engine Adzuna, the demand for warehouse operatives in various locations across the UK has spiked with more than 7,000 current vacancies remaining unfilled by prospective candidates.

This heightened demand has been driven by retailers focusing their attention on online shopping, enhancing their online presence and by consumers seeking fast-moving consumer goods and grocery shopping online.

These findings are also backed up by warehouse development statistics that show that more than 40m sq ft of warehouse space developments are scheduled for completion in 2021, compared to the 20m sq ft that was created back in 2020.

Midland Pallet Trucks, a provider of high-quality lifting equipment including pallet trucks, manual stacker trucks and lift tables, has been supporting the industry throughout the pandemic and is urging those seeking to recruit more warehouse operatives to consider their current materials handling stocks in line with their latest recruitment drive.

“With a surge in demand for skilled and unskilled warehouse operatives, we want to remind logistics and warehousing managers that their onboarding strategy should always include training on the safe use of lifting equipment,” said Phil Chesworth, Managing Director of Midland Pallet Trucks.

“Access to well-maintained materials handling equipment is imperative to help staff stay productive and reduce the risk of workplace injuries. We are asking those in charge of recruitment to think about their current lift equipment now so that there is good availability for a growing workforce once they begin their new roles.”
